Hold onto your seats – hot off the press is the news that colour experts Pantone have released their colour pick for 2020. It’s a Classic Blue colour (PANTONE 19-4052), and they say it’s ‘a timeless and enduring hue, elegant in its simplicity, suggestive of the sky at dusk and bringing a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit’.
While we’re not entirely sure it’s going to do all that, it is a lovely colour – a sort of rich, deep cobalt. This is an easy colour to work with, and it will match perfectly with neutrals such as grey and cream as well as providing a bold pop of colour.
Pantone’s colour choices always have a big impact, and appear on interiors accessories, furniture, packaging, clothing and more. Lots of manufacturers out there have already made sure they’re ahead of the trend with their own colour choices, so there’s plenty of choice out there if this is a colour that appeals.
If you’re unsure about using such a strong, deep colour in your home decor, use it on smaller accessories or single items of furniture instead – you can tone it down with neutrals, or jazz it up with metallics. It’s a perfect choice for a bedroom, as it’s a calming, restful colour – dip your toe into the trend with throws, cushions or bedding.
