The big news in the interior design world today is that Pantone have announced their colour of the year for 2016. Only this year they’ve taken everyone by surprise by the introduction of not one, but two colours.
And they are….the pastel hues of warm Rose Quartz (pink) and cool Serenity (blue).
To many, they may just seem like plain old pink and blue – and colours often associated with nursery decor – but to Pantone they signify something altogether different.
Here’s what Pantone said about their choices:
“As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern day stresses, welcoming colors that psychologically fulfill our yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more prominent.”
It’s all a bit different to the rich red Marsala that’s characterised 2015, but they’re certainly soothing colours.
When the colours blend together, the mix is reminiscent of sunsets. It also reminds me of the gorgeous shade of hydrangeas – pink, blue and lilac.
What do you think? Will you be using these colours in home decorating projects?
To get you in the mood, here’s some homeware and accessories inspired by these two colours,
