It’s time to unveil the 2022 Pantone Colour of the Year – Very Peri. Pantone says it displays ‘a carefree confidence and a daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit’ and that it’s a ‘symbol of the global zeitgeist of the moment and the transition we are going through’. Honestly, that sounds like an awful lot for one colour to take on – it is quite nice, though. It’s a sort of rich, regal purple with red and blue overtones. It’s quite a strong colour, so more suitable for feature walls and the odd accent rather than re-doing your whole house.
It seems to be popular with industry insiders. Holly Ghent, of mid-century reproduction specialists Pash Classics, said: “Very Peri will be a beautiful accent colour for people’s homes. Interiors trends have shifted from the idea of minimalism to maximalism, Very Peri embodies this shift. For anybody who takes a bright and fun approach to interior design, we can see the colour being used a lot in 2022.”
Beth Travers, founder and creative director of design house Bobo1325, agrees. “The colour purple has long being associated with royalty therefore giving you an impression of richness which will go hand in hand with a feeling of luxury, power and nobility.”
We’ve rounded up our favourite accent pieces to help you work this bright, joyous colour into your home decor.
Catana retro round table in purple, Out & Out
This retro-style round table makes a perfect spot to park that cup of coffee, or display your favourite pot plant to advantage. It costs a pocket-friendly £99 and is available from Out & Out.
Metal table lamp, Cielshop
As Very Peri is such a strong colour, less is probably more! To add a bold accent, how about this sleek metal table lamp? The cobalt blue colour choice is very close to Pantone’s purple, or it’s also available in lilac, black or mustard. £139, available from Cielshop.
Purple agapanthus stem, Gisela Graham
This very realistic looking faux agapanthus stem is just the thing for adding a splash of colour to a neutral corner. At 44cm high, it’s bound to make an impact. Position three or four in a tall vase for a display that’s almost indistinguishable from the real thing! RRP around £7.50 per stem, available from Gisela Graham.
Dahlia/amethyst large flower jug, Dartington Crystal
A contrasting, vivid amethyst body and clear glass handle is finished with a unique hand applied flower motif. The jug is designed for use as a flower vase but we think it would be lovely for fruit punch in the summer (remember that?!). £45, available from Dartington Crystal.
Very Peri tall ampersand typography art print, Claude & Leighton
British art and design experts Claude & Leighton have been quick off the mark with a whole collection in Very Peri. We’ve picked out this tall ampersand print which marries contemporary style with a hint of art deco. £18, available from Claude & Leighton.
Empire shade in Liberty fabric, Pooky
We love the contrast of this very traditional shape and design in bold, modern colours. The fabric used is Liberty’s ‘poppy meadow’. It’s available in several different sizes and some sizes are even in the sale! You can find out more at Pooky’s website.
If you’re thinking of updating your decor this year, why not add in a hint of Very Peri and step into 2022 in style?
