We’ve called this feature ‘Art Deco makes a comeback’, but in fact it’s one of those trends that never really goes away. It first emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, and was evident in the architecture, furnishings and design of the time. Its main characteristics are bold, precise geometric shapes and strong colours. At the time, Art Deco made use of materials which were new and exciting, such as chrome and aluminium, glass blocks and a type of opaque glass called vitrolite. Modern Art Style takes some of the basic ingredients, such as the geometric shapes and bold colours, and mixes them up a bit with different metallics and textures.
This is a style that works well in modern homes, as it makes use of strong shapes and focuses on clean, unfussy lines. We’ve picked out some of our favourite modern pieces with a nod to the Art Deco style and a contemporary twist.
