You may not remember the era of mini skirts, the Beatles and Twiggy first hand, but 1960s style has never really gone out of favour in the interior design world.
In the 1960s, the Space Race meant new manufacturing processes were being developed along with bold new colours and designs. ‘Flat pack’ became a thing, and furniture was made out of revolutionary materials such as moulded plastic. The era followed the scarcity of the 1940s and the austerity of the 1950s, and people had both a little more money to spend on their homes and a better selection of goods to buy. Yes, alright, it might have been the era of the shag carpet and nylon fabric, but it was also the era of the Eames chair, the Arco lamp and pop art.
1960s style is set for another resurgence, so if you have a secret penchant for the Swingin’ 60s then we’ve picked out 10 key pieces to help get the look.
