Do you like to keep abreast of interior design trends? It’s natural to want to update your surroundings regularly, especially given how much extra time we’ve spent at home in recent years. More than half of homeowners renovated in 2021, while the median spend increased by 20% compared to the previous year.
Some projects cost more than others, of course, so you may need to consider your finances to facilitate more major plans. But small updates can go a long way and generally involve less disruption.
So, what trends can you look to incorporate over the coming months, however big or small your ambitions?
Sleep sanctuaries
The CDC recommends that adults need at least 7 hours of sleep per night. But with a lot of bedrooms doubling up as home offices during the pandemic, many will have struggled to hit that target. Now, there’s a clear desire for returning them to the peaceful retreats they’re supposed to be.
That means focusing on mood lighting, soothing colours, and comforting textures, and eliminating distractions like clutter and devices. Blackout curtains are a practical essential too.
Sustainability
It’s clear that buying and disposing of too many low-quality items isn’t helping our planet. The climate crisis has driven a consumer push to invest in responsibly made, longer-lasting items, as well as reusing and recycling what we already have.
Upcycling furniture is a great way to show off your creativity and learn new skills, and there’s plenty of inspiration to be found online.
Nature-inspired décor
Our connection to nature is another theme that’s been – at least partly – accelerated by the pandemic. After being trapped indoors for too long, homeowners are increasingly seeking ways to bring the outside in after developing a newfound appreciation for its powers.
Green is an obvious place to start if your home needs a lick of paint. But other options include using natural materials such as wood and jute, as well as – of course – tending for houseplants.
TikTok
While we’re talking about online influences, we’ll likely see TikTok guide interior design trends into next year and beyond.
One of the biggest interior trends to emerge from the platform recently was Cottagecore, which took inspiration from idyllic country living. It celebrated activities like foraging and home baking, which both contribute to making a wholesome home. Cottagecore elements can be incorporated into home decor through the use of wallpapers, soft furnishings, home accessories and wall art.
While viral trends are almost impossible to predict, it’s worth keeping your eye out for the latest trends and hacks to blow up.
Are any of these interior design trends on your radar?
