Fed up with increasingly hot British summers? Or want to improve a holiday home? Getting an air-conditioner for your home is probably one of the best decisions you’ll make. But the question lingers, where is the best place to install it to serve its purpose to the max? There are numerous factors that contribute to improved airflow, humidity, and heat. If your air conditioning system is built in the right location, it can control the temperature in your home at a minimal cost. Here are five tips to help you choose the best place to place your aircon.
Away from any heat sources
Many consumers are perplexed as to why their air conditioning equipment continues to run after attaining the desired temperature. The location of your air conditioner may affect its effectiveness, so you should keep your indoor unit away from any heat sources. Heat-generating appliances such as refrigerators, televisions, and lamps within your home can cause your air conditioner to work harder than it initially has to. If your air conditioner detects heat, the thermostat may react wrongly, reducing efficiency and triggering temperature control issues.
Avoid placing it near the windows
Aircons come in different sizes. To get the most value for money, try not to oversize or undersize air conditioners. As a result, if an additional heat load is imposed, the air conditioner may not be able to adequately chill the living room. Avoid placing your air conditioning unit facing the windows too, as this may allow cool air to blow into the hot windows instead. This would cause the windows to warm down the cold air which would make you feel that your living room or your bedroom isn’t cold enough.
Install it high enough for excellent cooling
As cold air poses a higher density so it tends to travel to the bottom of the room. As such, it’s recommended that you install your new air conditioning system a bit higher in order for it to provide optimum cooling throughout your home. If your air conditioning system is installed too close to the ground, it may not generate the required results, leading to higher utility costs.
Having it installed at proper height will ensure it delivers optimum cooling. The space will be chilled considerably faster and there will be adequate room for all of the essential pipes and ducting.
Place it at a shaded area
Too much sunshine could be harmful for your air conditioner. If you leave the machine in direct sunlight, it will overheat and be forced to work at a fast speed in order to deliver the chilling affects you prefer. High levels of sunshine might also cause mechanical faults to develop over time. You may extend the life of your device and get the most out of it if you keep it out of direct sunlight.
Keep the space well ventilated
Air circulation can be restricted by blocking air conditioner vents with furniture, decorations, or drapes if it does not get the ventilation that it needs. To get the most out of your air conditioner, make sure it’s free of any obstructions like furniture or any other items around the area. When there is plenty of room around the air conditioner, it will make the aircon perform its absolute best and let the cold air move freely around the room. If you overcrowd the space around it, it may suffocate and won’t be able to manage the temperature of your home.
It is also important to keep tall objects away from the air conditioner. Contemporary air conditioners typically offer an ECO mode that uses a motion detection to reduce cooling power while no one is in the room in order to save energy. The air conditioning system may imply that no one is present in the room if there is a towering object in front of it. As a result, the ECO mode may be activated and reduce its cooling power, making your room feel too warm all of the time.

I moved to a new studio apartment just last weekend, and since it’s the height of summer, I plan to get an air conditioning unit installed soon to keep the place cool. It was a useful piece of advice when you told us to avoid installing ac units near the windows since the additional heat load imposed on them might not make the unit adequately cool the room. I’ll keep this in mind while I look for an HVAC company to call for the installation soon.
