Of course, you know as well as we do that the moment any of us moves a chair outside or buys a new garden bench the heavens will open and it won’t stop raining until September. Still, we’re nothing if not optimistic and the weather has definitely taken a turn for the better! It’s really starting to feel as though summer is on its way, so we’re going to bite the bullet and invest in a new garden seat – care to join us outside with a cup of tea?
1. Violet rattan bench, Beaumonde
How gorgeous is this traditional bench? Handmade from rattan, it has a Scandinavian vibe (we think ‘Violet’ refers to the model name, not the colour!). As it’s handmade from natural materials it probably won’t appreciate being outside in a downpour, so put it in a sheltered area and cover it up during bad weather. £399, available from Beaumonde.
2. Leopold two seater garden bench, Habitat
If contemporary is more your thing, then this modernist bench might be to your taste. It’s made from durable, powder-coated metal and the sofa-style design works equally well on a patio or in the home. A matching chair is also available. £195, available from Habitat.
3. Acacia wood bench, Cox & Cox
4. Richmond bench, Garden Trading
Inspired by London’s parks and green open spaces the Richmond bench is perfect for sitting with a book or newspaper in the comfort of your own garden. Sturdy and substantial, it’s available in carbon or foliage green for £190 from Garden Trading. (This image and main image.)
5. Tuscan reclaimed bench, Jo Alexander
Made from reclaimed teak with a rustic look and feel. This bench has already had a useful previous life – maybe as an old beam or floorboard – and is now enjoying a renaissance as a enduring piece of garden furniture. Its inconsistencies, from knots and in-fills to natural cracks, add to its rustic charm. £395, available from Jo Alexander.
6. Edson garden large bench, MADE
Sleek and sophisticated, this Edson bench has an industrial concrete and metal finish so it looks contemporary and is easy to look after. £299, available from MADE.
7. Palermo three seater garden bench, Danetti
Designed to bring the style and comfort of interior dining to the outdoors, this fabric backless bench has been engineered to be comfortable and durable! The fabric used on the seat is showerproof so you don’t need to take it in every time it rains, and the bench itself is made from powder-coated aluminium. £299, available from Danetti.
8. Loveseat in grey, VonHaus
Perfect for relaxing on the lawn or terrace, this loveseat is made from long lasting and durable hardwood with a teak oil coating for extra protection and consists of two armchairs connected by a two tier table. £159, available from VonHaus.
9. Palissade bench, Hay
Designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, this sleek bench is designed to fit a wide variety of environments. The construction means it’s strong without being bulky and elegant without being fragile. Ideal for pairing with a dining table as well as standalone, it costs £299 from Nest.
10. Jala garden bench, MADE
Classic with a modern difference, the Jala lounge bench combines traditional style with sleek modern construction. Was £299, now £179, available from MADE.
