Many of us have more time on our hands than we’d perhaps like at the moment, as we all prepare to stay in our homes.
However, it’s the ideal opportunity to give your property a spruce up but you don’t need to spend loads to do so. Some simple tricks, with items you likely already have around your home, can give rooms a boost and won’t take long to do at all. Plus, it will keep your mind and body active.
We’ve taken inspiration from this home renovation guide, featuring tips and inspiration to help you create a home you want to spend in time in, at a low price. Here are just a few ideas to get you started.
Spruce up your woodwork

The skirting boards and banisters around your home may be looking tired and so it’s a great time to pull out that half used tin of gloss and get to work. Take some time to sand the surface to remove the top layer of paint then apply your gloss as needed. You’ll be left with crisp white woodwork to enjoy until next year!
Revamp kitchen and bathroom sealant
This is a job that doesn’t take long at all but makes a massive difference. It’s likely you have a tube of sealant somewhere in the garage or shed so rummage around and grab this then get to work. The guide notes that you’ll need to scrape away the old sealant first then carefully apply the fresh stuff, wiping away excess with a wet finger or smoother tool.
Revamp the sealant around the bathtub, the kitchen sink and around taps to give your home a clean, fresh finish.
Renovate old wooden furniture

Do the dining chairs need a revamp? Or perhaps you purchased some second hand furniture with the intention to spruce it up for use around your home. Whatever the case, now is a great time to enjoy an afternoon in the garden on a sunny spring day, sanding down those chairs and giving them a bright lick of paint to extend their life.
Create a feature wall

Have some tins of paint in the garage that need using up? Consider featuring them in your home and create a striking feature wall. That leftover navy blue from the kitchen would also look great on a wall in the lounge, with gold accessories and velvet cushions, while that peachy pink you used in your child’s bedroom would look fantastic painted on the hallway ceiling. Take a look at the guide’s ‘matt or silk’ paint section to help you determine what type of paint to use and where.
