Here at Fresh Design, we like to keep our fingers on the pulse – and this time, we’re looking all the way forward to spring 2021. Trend forecasting company WGSN, who were the first company to use technology to forecast trends back in the late 1990s, are considered to be the experts in the field of knowing what’s going to be hot in the future. They’ve picked a bright, summery blue called A.I. Aqua as one of their ‘hero’ colours of 2021.
It’s called ‘A.I. Aqua’ as a nod to artificial intelligence and the increased technological ability we’ll have in 2021 with the advent of 5G. Apparently, blue is the colour used predominantly on websites and other forms of technology (including our logo!) so this bold turquoise is designed to be contemporary and fresh.
It’s a bold colour, so use it in your home to create accents on cushions, vases or rugs. It will pair well with navy or cobalt blue, or tone it down with shades of grey. If you want to get well ahead of the trend on this one, we’ve picked out a few key pieces.
LUDO cotton bedset, MADE
This kingside bedspread is 100% cotton, designed with aqua green and white grids and contrasted with grey piping. Even better, it’s in the sale at the moment – was £65, now £35, available from MADE.
Box of eight Danish non-drip candles in aquamarine, Rebecca Udall
These elegant and practical candles will help create a beautiful and relaxed atmosphere. They have an eight-hour burn time, will fit most candle holders and burn evenly and smokelessly. £25 for a box of eight, available from Rebecca Udall.
Chevron design glass vase, Gisela Graham
This pretty decorative vase measures 22cm by 17cm, the chevrons giving it a bold, modern look which would work well in a minimalist or Scandinavian-inspired interior. It costs £17.50 and is available from Hurn & Hurn.
Voluptuous glass vase, Audenza
If you like the idea of an aqua vase but you’re more into curves than geometrics, then this bubbly vase might fit the bill. It measures 28cm tall by 17cm wide, and would look great as an ornament in its own right as well as filled wih flowers. It costs £39.95, available from Audenza.
Colourblock aqua, blue and pink throw, MADE
Add a splash of colour to your bedroom with this bright knitted throw, combining aqua with cobalt blue and soft pink. It will boost plain bedding or sofa and measures a generous 130cm by 170cm. Even better, it’s another bargain from the MADE sale – was £35, now just £18.
Indian silk lampshade in aqua and gold, Love Frankie
This beautiful lampshade will make a focal point for any room. The shade is made from silk with a natural slub, and has flame retardant layers underneath for safety. It’s available in a range of shapes and sizes to suit any location, and costs from £45 from Red Candy.
Luna bar stool in aqua, Danetti
This Luna bar stool is simple in style and will add a fresh new look to your breakfast bar. It’s both durable and practical as it’s made from polypropylene, with a smooth plastic surface which can be wiped clean. As it’s made from a single moulded piece, there are no cracks for crumbs, dirt or pet hair to lodge in, so it’s easy to clean. Available from Danetti, it costs £138 for a set of two and also comes in other colours.

I just love aqua blue accessories at my home space. They look great with my cream kitchen cabinets and dark wooden beams on the ceiling.
