Trying to sell your home? There are many steps that you can take to make your home as attractive to potential buyers as possible but one of the most effective – yet often overlooked areas – is the lighting. Lighting serves a very important role in the home and can be used to set the mood and atmosphere.
Create A Bright Space
First, you want to make sure that each room of the home is bright enough. A dark and dingy room will feel unclean and unwelcoming whereas a bright, well-lit space will be much more appealing to visitors – this is particularly important in the kitchen and bathrooms.
Use Layered Lighting
Lighting is a powerful tool when it comes to interior design and, when used effectively, can add style and set the atmosphere in a space. You can achieve this through using layered lighting in each room. This includes ambient lighting which is the general illumination and is usually achieved with overhead lighting such as pendant lighting from places like Heals. There is then task lighting which provides practical light for activities – a good example is a desk lamp which can be used for reading. The final layer is accent lighting which is purely for aesthetic purposes and is used to accentuate the decor and architectural features of the room.
Exterior Lighting
You should not forget about the exterior lighting either as this can improve a property’s curb appeal while also improving home security. Choose exterior lighting which will make your home look attractive from outside, allows you to see while you are out the front of the home and matches the architectural style of the property.
Light Fixtures
You can also replace boring, dated light fixtures with something that is more attractive to make a room more visually appealing. Make sure that any light fixtures that you replace suit the decorative style of the room and are still practical. You also need to make sure that all the bulbs are working whenever you have a viewer – although they will be able to easily replace them themselves it is still important to have all the lights working as they should.
Hopefully these tips will allow you to improve the lighting in your home which can make a big difference when it comes to impressing potential buyers. Lighting can do much more than illuminate a space as it can be used to create mood, set the atmosphere and highlight the best features of the home.
