We’ve said before on Fresh Design that fragrances can add atmosphere to a home interior, so I was delighted to be offered the chance to try some room fragrances from the new home collection by London perfumer, Miller Harris.
The home collection consists of a range of fragranced room sprays, refillable ceramic reed diffusers and candles. I tried two of the bespoke limited editions – the Zaffre room spray and Verditer reed diffuser.
Both products were well packaged and arrived securely in gorgeous packaging. I particularly love the same-colour embossed design on the lid of the product boxes and was pleased to discover in the case of the room spray, that the design matched the inky black design on the back of the bottle. With a product so focused on the sense of smell, it was a nice addition that the embossed feel of the packaging adds an element to the sense of touch and helps make the packaging stand out.
The Zaffre room spray is everything I look for in a home fragrance – something that’s fresh, with a hint of fruity, and that lasts well, but isn’t too overpowering. It’s got a perfect balance of notes, works well as a fragrance throughout the house and has become my new favourite go-to scent.
Their description sums it up perfectly: “A floral and aquatic fragrance which will freshen the room immediately. Fresh fruity top notes of invigorating bergamot and the ripe berry blackcurrant meet flowery cyclamen and violets, creating a warm, optimistic freshness, a fresh blue feeling.”
When sprayed, the scent of the Zaffre room spray lasts very well – it certainly doesn’t disappear within seconds like some cheap room sprays – and lingers pleasantly in the air for a considerable time.
The Verditer room diffuser fragrance comes complete with a beautiful ceramic re-fillable vessel and a set of black reeds. The ribbed cream vessel is gently embossed with the Miller Harris logo and fragrance refills are available to purchase separately.
In contrast to the Zaffre room spray, the Verditer room diffuser is a much more earthy and green scent, that’s based on the fragrance of figs.
They say, “Figs. Their fruit, leaves, their milk. This is a green, transporting and atmospheric scent, carrying us to the edge of a vineyard, rich sunlight throbbing through a fig tree, fragrant, earthy and sensual.”
If you like fragrances featuring notes of fig, then you’re likely to love this. For me, it didn’t have the instant ‘love it’ effect of Zaffre, but it certainly was a scent that grew on me the longer the diffuser was in a room. In fact, that may be down to it being in a diffuser format, as the scent is gradually distributed. Plus, to an extent, you can control how much of the fragrance is released through the number of reeds you use.
My overall impressions of both products were great. A lot of thought has clearly gone into the design and creation of both the home scents, the products themselves and their packaging, and the end result is impressive. They feel like luxurious products and would be ideal for a special gift or a treat for your home.
Both products, plus the rest of the range, are available to purchase online from Miller Harris.
