As the seasons change, it’s time to think about spending more time indoors and cosying up with throws, cushions and atmospheric lighting. We take a look at what the best-dressed homes will be wearing this autumn.
Autumn trend 1: Colour
Colours this season are rich and earthy, inspired by the natural world. Think deep, glossy browns (conkers and acorns), amber and russet (autumn leaves) and lovely rich deep reds and purples (heather and chrysanthemums). These colours all work well together, so you can mix and match to your heart’s content – you can use shades of cream and grey for contrast. Think piles of scatter cushions and lampshades in russety autumn colours for the ultimate cosy feel.

Autumn trend 2: Texture
Again, textures and patterns this season are inspired by nature. Natural wood, including bark, cork and unpolished surfaces, will add interest to everything from furniture to accessories. Other key materials include wicker, willow and rattan work as well as earthen ware and terracotta. Patterns will draw on woodland motifs such as pheasants, squirrels and pinecones.
‘Handcrafted’ is also a strong theme for this autumn – think chunky wool cushions and throws, with tassels, pom poms and macrame a-plenty. Time to fetch out that sewing basket!
