It’s sad to see the summer go, but I do love the arrival of autumn, and especially the rich autumn colours and changing leaves on the trees. In the same way that we change our clothing to warmer layers, it’s a good time to add some extra comforts and snuggly layers to our homes.
Home store Wayfair recently invited me, along with nine other bloggers, to take part in an Autumn Colour Challenge, with the idea being to inject some autumnal shades into our home.
As two of the colours set to be hot this season are teal blue and copper, I’ve used these two hues as the basis of a seasonal update to cosy up a favourite corner of my living room.
The key elements of a cosy autumn home
To add autumn colour and make a corner cosier, the key elements I focused on were soft furnishings and textures – cushions for the chair, a throw to snuggle under on chilly evenings and a soft rug for underfoot. Plus, to bring it all together, I added some lovely accessories.
Cushions
Changing cushions is a really easy way to update your homeware – and it’s even better when you can just change the covers. The House Additions cushion covers are in a rich teal shade and have a lovely textured feel to them. They’re a great addition to add softness and a lively pop of colour to the chair.
Throw
There’s nothing better than getting warm and cosy inside under a throw when the air is chilly outside. The Elite Home Collection handwoven teal throw has an attractive geometric style design and fits the bill perfectly. It’s big enough to wrap yourself up in or share it with someone else. I can see this one getting heaps of use.
Rug
As well as cuddling up under a cosy blanket, it’s also good to have an extra element of warmth underfoot. The Candlelight Lane handwoven rug by Langley Street serves this purpose well. It’s made from wool in a Jellybean style and features varying shades of teal, from light to dark, and works really well with the cushions and throw.
Accessories
I love copper, so was thrilled to find this gorgeous Talbot Tray by Endon Lighting. It’s got an aged copper finish, so wasn’t quite as shiny as hoped, but it’s the perfect size to use with my side table.
I’ve popped my copper lidded pot and electric wax melt burner on it, along with my favourite ceramic conkers for a true autumnal touch.
I’m always looking for new home storage ideas, so couldn’t resist this Wicker Storage Box set by Castleton Home. The set of two baskets are in a vibrant teal and are great for adding an additional pop of colour into the room, whilst also providing some valuable extra storage space.
I love the fact that both baskets have lids, so you can hide the clutter away, as well as stack them in style.
I had hoped to add a bit of wall art too, but the print I had my eye on – Copper Earth by Suzy Barker – wasn’t available in time.
All in all though, I’m really pleased with how all of these pieces have helped add a sense of warmth, cosy style and plenty of textural interest into this corner of the living room. I can’t wait to relax, unwind and snuggle up in the chair and, of course, under the blanket!

I love these colors. I am currently brightening up my home and decided to go with red accents.
I wouldn’t think of teal as an autumn color, but I love what you did with it!
