Metallics for your home are still a hot trend, and one that looks set to continue well into 2018. Homewares companies are continuing to expand metallics ranges including copper kitchenware, lighting and even soft furnishings.
Bolsius, candlemakers since 1870, have launched their metallic candles in a range of silver, copper, ivory, champagne, rust red, gold, pink, burnt copper and shimmering white in solid or fading shades, ideal for adding a little sparkle to your dinner party or mantlepiece.
The pillar candles are available in a choice of five sizes, and in total there are eight shape variants over 30 colours. We looked at a range of the metallics including 80mm and 130mm pillar candles in white, copper and silver. RRPs range from £2.49 to £4.49.
First impressions were that these are nice quality candles, weighty and chunky with a braided wick which is less likely to go out. The metallic finishes were really nicely done, giving a shimmering sheen rather than a ‘wrapped in metal’ look, and they made the candles look textured.
A couple of these candles in different shapes and sizes would be just the job to make a centrepiece for a dinner party – team with a plain white tablecloth, silver napkin rings and copper cutlery for a contemporary look.
They’d also be perfect for Christmas (not that we’re already thinking about Christmas, oh no!) and would be a quick and easy way to dress a table or mantlepiece. Put several candles of different sizes on a heat-proof plate and twine ivy through the candles.
We also tried these candles in garden lanterns, and they showed up well when unlit with the sunlight reflecting off the metallic finishes.
The largest candle we tried (130mm) had a manufacturer’s burn time of 43 hours and we probably got around 35 out of it – we were burning it outside for some of that time though, and it was a breezy evening!
The smallest candle we tried (80mm) had a burn time of 30 hours and probably burned for around 25 to 27 (completely indoors). Although these candles aren’t sold as non-drip, there was minimal mess and wax run from any of them.
The Bolsius metallic candles are an inexpensive way to dip your toe in the metallic trend, and represent great value for money. You can find out more at the Bolsius website.
The candles are available to buy from retailers such as Amazon, Candle With Care and Dawn Candles.

I’m all about the rust red and copper at the moment. Currently trying to find a set of copper pans that won’t bankrupt me. Some of these would look great in my apartment!
