
Tiles are no longer just for bathrooms and kitchens – the vast range of bright, sophisticated, textured, hand painted or budget tiles available mean you could find something to create a feature in any room of the house.

Hand painted and delicate, these crisp white tiles are painted with indigo Delft style flowers. Stick with one type, or mix and match from the range of six designs to add interest – flowers include Lychris, Cardoon, Oxalis, Lunaria, Tulipa and Geum. For a budget option, try this bold turquoise tile from B&Q. Suitable for use in kitchens, bathrooms, shower walls, hearths, fireplace surrounds and more, they’ll create a simple, unfussy feature. £1.98 each from B&Q.

Here’s a really different idea if you like textured tiles. These tiles are made using a ceramic tile and a choice of various fabrics before being finished and sealed with a special gloss coating that protects them from heat, dust, dirt, grease and damp conditions, and yet preserves the vibrant colour and ‘fabric’ look. pictured is Tilda Mia fabric in teal, £8.95 per tile from Simply Divine Things.

If you want to liven up an existing tiled wall that’s looking a bit tired but don’t fancy re-tiling, then cheat!
