True blue: Blue tile ideas for your home

September 21, 2015 By Sara Walker 2 Comments

Glass mosaic tiles

Tiles are no longer just for bathrooms and kitchens – the vast range of bright, sophisticated, textured, hand painted or budget tiles available mean you could find something to create a feature in any room of the house.

Tiling round fireplaces, door architraves, running a line of tiles under a window or just creating a simple sink splashback will add a dash of colour and interest. We’ve picked out ten of our favourite tiles with a fresh blue colourscheme.

1. Epoque blue Odyssey tile, Original Style

Blue Epoque Odyessy tiles

These ceramic patterned tiles, with their subtle blue and grey colourscheme, are printed in Devon. Each tile measures 300 x 300 x 9mm. These would be perfect for adding a little period elegance to a hallway or bathroom. For stockists. visit Original Style.

2. Felicity tile in blue, Jacqueline Talbot Designs

Blue Felicity tiles, £4.50 each

These bright, unusual contemporary ceramic tiles have a design a bit like a patchwork quilt. Use them in lines to add interest to doorways and windows to avoid a fussy effect. Available in black or blue in small, medium and large sizes, prices start from £4.50 from Jacqueline Talbot Designs.

3. Hammered light blue mixed glass mosaic tiles, Tile Mountain
Glass mosaic tiles, £5.99 per small sheet

If your DIY skills aren’t all they could be, then don’t worry! These glass mosaic tiles come in a small sheet (11 to a square metre) to make them easy to install, and you can also get mosaic backing sheets to help you. £5.99 per small sheet from Tile Mountain.

4. Delft flower tiles, The Winchester Tile Company
Hand painted blue Delft flower tiles, £11.45

Hand painted and delicate, these crisp white tiles are painted with indigo Delft style flowers. Stick with one type, or mix and match from the range of six designs to add interest – flowers include Lychris, Cardoon, Oxalis, Lunaria, Tulipa and Geum. These would be perfect for a conservatory or garden room. £11.45 each, visit The Winchester Tile Company for stockists.

5. Minaret tile, Jacqueline Talbot Designs
Bold blue Minaret tiles, £4.50 each

Bold and bright, these ceramic Minaret tiles will add a little Eastern flavour to sitting rooms or bedrooms. Available in small, medium and large sizes, prices start at £4.50 each from Jacqueline Talbot Designs.

7. Fabric ceramic wall tiles, Simply Divine Things
Fabric and ceramic tiles, £8.95 each

Here’s a really different idea if you like textured tiles. These tiles are made using a ceramic tile and a choice of various fabrics before being finished and sealed with a special gloss coating that protects them from heat, dust, dirt, grease and damp conditions, and yet preserves the vibrant colour and ‘fabric’ look. pictured is Tilda Mia fabric in teal, £8.95 per tile from Simply Divine Things.

8. Portuguese tile stickers, Spin Collective
Blue Portuguese tile stickers, £20 for 30

If you want to liven up an existing tiled wall that’s looking a bit tired but don’t fancy re-tiling, then cheat! This set of 30 sticker tiles will adhere to existing tiles and are suitable for kitchen and bathroom use as well as shower cubicles. It’s a much cheaper option, too. £20 from Spin Collective.
