Imagine a chair that comes in the form of a flatpack envelope, that can be sent easily be post, and opens up to provide a sturdy, portable piece of furniture.
Creating practical, foldable, usable furniture was the aim of industrial designers, Douwe Jacobs and Tom Schouten, who set up Flux in 2009. The first result of their inspiration and design ideas is the Flux Chair – a fully flexible folding chair that saves on floor space when it’s not in use and is a breeze to move.
The clever design means that it only takes two simple folds to transform a flat envelope with a handle into a designer chair. The Flux chair is waterproof, so it can be used outdoors in your garden, on a beach or in a park, as well as in any room of your home.
The chair itself weighs 4.5kg and it can support weights of up to 160kg.
The Flux chair is available in a selection of colours, including red, white, blue, grey, yellow and dark grey. Various retailers have the Flux chair in stock, in different colours – Oliver Bonas (6 colours currently available, priced at £109), Made in Design (£113, plus they sell Flux cushions too) and Amazon (lots of colours, £109).
