With the festive season creeping up on us and a hellish year having been experienced by all, it’s only right that we want to spread some Christmas cheer as early as possible. With December finally here, we want to whip up our tree, get the fairy lights twinkling, and set up a festive outdoor laser show extraordinaire for the neighbours to marvel at. However, we also don’t want to go too far and make our homes look tacky. There’s nothing worse than driving past a humble abode only to see some lights thrown at a bush and some wonky icicle lights adorning some leaky guttering.
To go the whole hog, you want to create a classy and sophisticated festive decor that is a feast for the senses. Both your internal and exterior decor needs to be focused on to emulate the most magical time of the year. Take a look at these festive interiors and exteriors for all.
Exterior
When we consider the outside of our pads, we concentrate on the foliage that we have. If you are blessed with a large structural plant or tree in your driveway, this can be the ideal vehicle for some lights. While soft and subtle white or gold lights have been the fashion recently, many people are breaking the retro mould this year and opting for the colourful lights of the 1980s. Remember those thick set lantern style lights of red, yellow, green, and pink. These are coming back into fashion. Adorn your tree in a helter skelter fashion starting at the top and descending to the base. Try to keep the lights equidistant and the result will look stunning.
If you are keen to adorn your home with some lights, the icicle style is stunning. However, you can also opt for something a little outside the box. Light shows projected from a lightbox in your garden can look amazing on your wall. If you have some white render on your property, stockings, candy canes, and snowmen of all different colours can dance across your pad.
If you are fortunate enough to have some greenery out the front, your lawn may be screaming out for some Christmas cheer. Think about picking up some incredible static pre-lit reindeer to graze on your grass. Or perhaps, you want to explore the wonderful world of giant inflatables. Those houses with giant inflatable snowglobes, waving Santas, and happy Rudolphs bring festive fun to the neighbourhood.
Interior
The interior of your home is your pride and joy. Any festive decor that you create needs to complement and bring something aesthetically pleasing to your home. While modern lighting and Christmas baubles can look great, it is the traditional aspect of Christmas that we love. Memories with family and friends opening gifts, watching movies, and eating plenty is what Christmas is all about. This may be a little different this year, but we can still hold onto the traditions that we enjoy.
Ensure that you get out the old school decorations and the ornaments that the kids made in nursery all those years ago. These can fill our homes with memories and positive thoughts even when the world is seemingly so uncertain at the moment. Let your decor give you the festive cheer that you crave.
