Have you ever wandered around your home and thought to yourself “how did we end up with so much stuff”? You’re really not alone. In fact, many homeowners find themselves accumulating miscellaneous items over the year, until eventually they just have nowhere to store them!
But simply throwing these things out would be a waste. Besides, what if they were to come in handy in the future? If you find yourselves in a position where you’re struggling to store all your cherished possessions, take a look at the tips below to find out where you could be maximizing your home’s storage potential.
Build a shed
If there’s no room in the house, then why not build another structure outside it to make more? A shed can be a great place for storage, outdoor working and a bit of peace and quiet as well.
The size of your shed is only limited by the size of your garden. You can opt for a traditional wood structure, or if you’re after something a little stronger then there are also steel alternatives which can be customized in a number of ways.
Once you have your shed built you can use clever storage techniques such as magnetized tool racks and tall shelving units to maximize the storage space you have inside.
Invest in a storage bed
Whilst a room might seem full, very often there is ample space available which is unable to be utilized due to the wrong furniture choices or placement. Take under the bed for example. If your bed doesn’t allow you to utilize the space underneath effectively, it’s definitely guilty of being wasteful.
There are many storage beds available which allow you to store plenty of items underneath the bed, with the help of built in drawers. These allow the user to effortlessly retrieve their items, without the stress of clambering underneath.
Lease some extra space
If you are expecting an influx of items and are worried that there might not be enough room in your home, then you can always lease some space from storage providers. You can often lease units for as a little as a few days or opt for a rolling standing order to keep your items safe indefinitely.
This is the perfect solution if you have children who are moving back from college or uni, inherited a lot of items from a loved one or just want a quick solution to your ongoing storage issues.
Keep your home neat and tidy
Often it’s simply the appearance of clutter, which can give them the impression that your home has no storage space. By having a good spring clean now and then, you can shift items from workspaces and counters into drawers and cupboards, and leave the house feeling a lot more spacious in the process. If your wardrobe is overflowing, or you haven’t got enough space for a dedicated wardrobe, consider using a clothing rail, as it takes up less space.
If during these cleaning sessions you come across unwanted items, don’t be afraid to throw them out, or better yet donate unwanted items to your local charity or shelter. Be ruthless, ask yourself what you really need – and get rid of the rest. You’ll feel good for it, and your home will look it to.
