Are you looking to treat your home to a fresh new look, but have absolutely no idea where to start? If so, don’t worry – we’re here to help. Renovating your home can seem like a huge and daunting task but, in reality, with a little creativity you’ll be surprised at what you can get done. Here, we’re going to share our quick and easy renovation ideas so you can reinvent your home.
Add storage
Built-in storage always gives off that look of sophistication. It saves space and adds a new level of function to any room. You should always include plenty of storage options in a room when you’re planning a redesign, whether that’s in the form of drawers, cupboards under the stairs or built in shelves and a closet space.
Update your lighting
Lighting plays a huge role in the atmosphere and ambience of a house. You can opt for your regular fixtures such as ceiling lights, wall lights or lamps but consider different bulbs such as energy efficient and recessed halogen lights. Simply changing the bulbs will be easy enough for you to do on your own without needing to pay an electrician.
Change your flooring
Do you have an old carpet you hate? Well, you’re not stuck with it, change it! Think about the function of the room and what floor would be best suited. Laminate and hardwood flooring always look great in living rooms or bedrooms and you can accompany them with a big fluffy rug – combined together, they can really add warmth to a room. If you are worried this is going to be a tricky task, follow these steps to make it easier.
Make an inviting entrance
Adding colour to your front door or a touch of landscaping around the area will do wonders for the curb appeal of your home. Dress your door up with a welcome mat, potted plants and consider installing some outdoor light leading up the walkway or either side of the door.
Decorate
One of the easiest and simplest ways of renovating is decorating. Whether you want to make a statement with a feature wall or paint the entire room, opt for some colour on the walls to really switch it up and to be able to notice a difference in style.
It costs nothing to take a look at what your room already looks like and just move a couple of things around. Ask yourself if you need all the items you have, if not sell them or give them to charity. Add mirrors to give the illusion of a bigger and lighter room, and consider getting some statement items to add colour, such as cushions, a rug, curtains or ornaments.
Renovate the garden
A cost effective way to change how your backyard works is to add some plants. Although it could sound like an advanced level of gardening, it really isn’t. Simply shop around for some colourful plants such as geraniums, tulips or perennials to stand out and really make a difference.
You could also consider growing vegetables in a designated corner of your garden as a vegetable patch, not only will this look great but a fresh supply of delicious food is always good.
Invest in a carport
This might seem an odd one but, as hardly anyone uses their garage for a car these days, a metal carport is a useful way of protecting your cars from the outdoor elements. Unlike your normal everyday garage these can can survive all types of weather and are fire resistant. With a little time and effort you can put one of these together yourself in no time.
Give these simple steps a go in your own home and watch it transform in no time.
