Design a kitchen like never before, with the UK’s first virtual reality 3D Kitchen Modeller.
Magnet, the UK’s leading kitchen specialist, has recently opened a new state-of-the-art showroom in Sutton which includes a number of impressive digital design tools, including the ability to design a kitchen using virtual reality. The store is split into a number of key zones, where you can try out the design tools and find your perfect kitchen.
Here’s an insight into what the Sutton showroom offers and why you need to visit.
Digital kitchen display
The digital kitchen display area is a great example of how technology can change the way a showroom operates. Magnet have created a clever kitchen display that uses HD screens instead of cabinet doors. The idea is that you use an iPad to control and change the colour and style of the kitchen, including the worktops, handles and finishes, so that you can get a clear idea of exactly how they’d look.
The interactive display is life-size and the technology encompasses crystal clear HD. The clever use of technology means that the showroom doesn’t need to physically have all the available products out on display all the time and means you can access everything you want to see at the press of a button. A win-win solution for everyone.
You can see it in action in this video clip:
Touchscreens
As you wander around the showroom, you’ll find plenty of large format touchscreens dotted around which you can use to check out key product details and see near to life size images.
For example, you can check out ideas for ovens, hobs, cooker hoods, sinks and taps – all those essential items that you’ll need in your kitchen.
3D kitchen modeller
The most exciting part is, of course, the 3D kitchen modeller.
Using a light box, you can put together a kitchen design using small blocks – each tiny block represents a scaled 3D kitchen unit. They might look tiny placed on the light box in front of you, but if you pop on an Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, all will be revealed!
The headset allows you to experience and be immersed in a 360 degree view of your kitchen design.
If you’ve previously found it hard to imagine what a design on paper would actually look like when built in real life, then this 3D technology will transform your experience. No longer are you restricted by your limited imagination – the potential design of your new kitchen will open up before your eyes.
It’s a big development in kitchen design and amazing to have the technology available for people to use in a showroom. It could be the start of something very special for the kitchen design industry.
Tech lab
Once you’ve decided on a kitchen design and had a go at modelling it, the tech lab in the showroom allows you to add in all the latest product innovations and storage solutions, plus all the important finishing touches that your kitchen needs.
If you’d like to visit the new Magnet Sutton showroom and try out the technology yourself, you’ll find it at Unit C1, 301 High Street, Sutton, SM1 1LG. For more information visit http://www.magnet.co.uk/sutton

amazing! those VR things are getting better and better, great idea for showing designs
The kitchen is so important in a home. This would really help to get it right!
That is such a great idea to help guide kitchen design.
This is really exciting! Normally they just give you a blueprint and material samples which is quite hard to visualise properly. Hope other industries adopt it too!
At last!!! A way to actually visualise what you’re getting. Great to see this technology can be transferred to other things besides gaming. Surely this is the future for all things decorating / renovating!
Oh this is amazing! Virtual reality really is changing the landscape of so many things and I love how they are using it! It’s like we’re LIVING IN THE FUTURE!! LOL! xxx
Wow that’s so clever! it can be quite hard to visualise a scheme sometimes, so this would be really helpful when doing a kitchen renovation! x
Wow, what an amazing concept. This could revolutionize kitchen design. I have a real problem trying to visualise how things will look, so for me this would make choosing a kitchen so much less stressful!
Wow! This is really interesting! I would love to try it 🙂
How cool is that! Sometimes it’s so hard to envisage something as complicated as a new kitchen, with a layout that is workable so this is fantastic.
This is so cool, makes me want to re-do my kitchen! Noooo, focus Kim!
How interesting is this! And I love the free quiz, that’s an awesome little touch.
