A garden parasol is essential for ensuring you have much needed shade on hot days, and helps reduce the risk of getting sunburnt if you’re sitting outside. If you haven’t got a huge budget to spend on a garden parasol, then these two options are currently available for under £40.
The parasol poles are made from FSC eucalyptus wood, work with a pulley system and have added UV protection included in the canopy.
Available in lido blue or coral, the parasols currently cost £39.20 each from John Lewis.

 Screen printed lampshade
New from designer, Helen Rawlinson, is this block design screen printed white lampshade.
The design is inspired by tower blocks, ladders and shelving systems and the end result provides a modern design with a hint of retro.
The lampshade on its own can be purchased for £39, but the tall, wenge lamp base shown, or the same base in a natural colour, is available too for an extra fee.
All items, along with some other lovely products, can be purchased from Helen Rawlinson’s shop on Not On The High Street.

 Flower design light shade
There are some stunning lights and light shades available, but some pieces aren’t very budget-friendly. This lovely hanging flower light shade, though, looks more expensive than it actually is.
Made from recycled polypropylene by Yorke Design, the curved petals of the water lily inspired design come in a flat pack and take a short amount of time to carefully crease and clip them together, as per the instructions.
The end result is a really effective and eye-catching light shade that looks like it cost a lot more than it actually did.
The hanging flower light is only £29.95 from Yorke Design. Definitely worth investing in!
They also do a light shade called Snow, with more ponited petals, which is £24.95.

 Striking lampshade
Emma Armstrong, who runs Stem, specialises in making lampshades and produces some striking pieces.
This turqouise lampshade is a gorgeous colour and would look great used to add a touch of colour to a neutral or white room, or teamed with other turqouise pieces.
The outside of the lampshade is covered in a silvery fabric, with a large turquoise floral design, but what makes the lamp shade a bit more unusual is the addition of stripes of colour on the inside.
The turquoise flower and stripe lampshade is available in a variety of sizes and can be made to order. Prices start from £69 and the shade is available to purchase from Stem.

 Icarus lamp shade
Designer, Tord Boontje, is known for his unusual creations (like the decorative steel ivy panel we featured before) and this feathery lamp shade is no exception.
The creative Icarus lamp shade design features a tumbling swathe of overlapping feathers, that looks like the white wing of a swan. The shade measures 78cm in length and can accommodate light bulbs of up to 60 watts.
Not surprisingly, and as the name suggests, the inspiration behind the light comes from the tale of Icarus, who flew too close to the sun and lost his wings. Although the idea of having a feather-like lamp shade may not appeal to everyone, it’s an effective design.
The Icarus lamp shade by Tord Boontje is sold by Dutch by Design and costs £75.

 Attractive butterfly shade
Hot on the heels of the 3D Provence floral table lamp comes this great lighting discovery.
Made by Mixko, a Japanese and British designer duo, this unusual buttefly light is made from thick white felt. The lamp shade is available in a choice of drum or drape styles and each has a series of butterflies cut out of the material and adorning the light in various places. The butterflies vary in shape and size and look like they’ve been attracted to the sight of the light and are perched on the shade to be near it.
This unusual piece is available to purchase from The French Bedroom Company.
