 Breezer flag garden parasol
With the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in full swing and flags flying high, this contemporary garden parasol seemed rather an appropriate item to feature.
Designed by Sywawa, the large canopy-style parasol has dozens of white flags hanging from the top of the canopy.
In addition to providing an unusual textural element to the design, the flags also add movement as they flutter and swirl as they get caught by the breeze – which explains why it’s called Breezer!
The Breezer garden parasol has a brushed stainless steel pole and base and is available in either white powder coated steel or anthracite grey from Go Modern.

A garden parasol is essential for ensuring you have much needed shade on hot days, and helps reduce the risk of getting sunburnt if you’re sitting outside. If you haven’t got a huge budget to spend on a garden parasol, then these two options are currently available for under £40.
The parasol poles are made from FSC eucalyptus wood, work with a pulley system and have added UV protection included in the canopy.
Available in lido blue or coral, the parasols currently cost £39.20 each from John Lewis.

With the weather hotting up, it’s a great opportunity to make the most of your garden or outdoor space. But as sitting in the full heat of the sun isn’t advisable, here are three ways to create shade in your garden.
1. Shade Sail
 Garden shade sail
This triangular shade sail is a nice alternative to a garden umbrella, parasol or gazebo. Position it where you wish, between trees, shrubs or overhanging a patio, deck or balcony, and enjoy the shade is provides. There are no awkward legs to avoid and, if it does rain, the water should roll off the shade.
The shade sail is available in green or beige and costs £49.99 from Greenfingers.
2. Pop Up Garden Gazebo with Side Panels
 Super shady gazebo
Garden gazebos have become really popular over the last decade, as they provide a large area of shade for lots of people to sit under. They’re good if you’ve got young children who want to play outside, as there’s plenty of space for them to move around underneath the gazebo, whilst still leaving room for you to sit underneath it.
Whilst many gazebos have open sides, this pop up garden gazebo has enclosed sides, which can give a bit more protection from the sun, wind and, if you’re unlucky enough to get any, light rain showers. The clear window effect on the back panel helps prevent it from feeling too enclosed or claustrophobic.
It’s only £19.99 from Homebase, so is an affordable option too.
3. Alexander Rose Garden Parasol
 Sunshade for your garden
Sometimes you just can’t beat a classic garden parasol. Ideal for using in conjunction with a garden table when you’re dining outside, this Alexander Rose wooden garden sunshade has a pulley mechanism for opening and shutting and is available in navy blue, ecru, green or taupe.
It costs £99 from Dobbies.

 Multicoloured parasol
If you’re in need of shade when sitting in your garden or on the beach – and with our current weather, shade has been much appreciated – then a parasol or sun umbrella is the perfect way of ensuring you’ve always got shade when you need it.
This big and bright garden parasol caught our eye at Heal’s. Made exclusively for Heal’s, it features panels of five bright colours - red, pink, blue, green and yellow – and is guaranteed to add a splash of colour to your patio or garden.
The fabric is made from Dralon, which is hard wearing and, apparently, resistant to dirt. The multi coloured parasol measures 200cm in diameter and currently has £25 off the usual price. Buy it from Heal’s.

Sywawa cube multi-purpose sun shade base
We love products that are functional and it’s even better when they can be multi-use too. Thanks to Pierre, who commented on the 5 of the best garden parasols post, we discovered Sywawa and, more importantly, this very nifty functional cube sun shade base.
Designed by Jan Melis for Sywawa, the cube works as a stylish base for a sun umbrella, sun shade or parasol, but can also be transformed into a handy pouffe, or seat too. Just turn it upside down (with the umbrella removed!), pop on the matching cushion, and viola, you have a seat!
The cube base is a lovely modern design to use in your garden and is available in several colours. If you don’t want to use it as a seat, then it would also make a handy table.
One of the stockists in the UK is Made In Design, who have the green cube sun shade base available for £193.

It’s lovely to have hot, sunny days, but in order to make the most of your garden during the hot weather, a parasol is essential for providing some shade. Whether you’re sitting out relaxing, or dining alfresco, then here’s our pick of five of the best garden parasols.
1. Hardwood parasols are a long-term favourite and this Princess parasol, designed by Paul Reef Parasols, features a classic green woven polyester top with a hardwood pole.
The parasol top is coated with 3M Scotchguard and it has vents in the top too, to help prevent it taking off. In order to put the parasol up and down easily, there is a four-pulley corded system. The hardwood pole is nice and sturdy and is finished off with brass fittings.

The Princess parasol is available from Amazon for £109 and it comes complete with a heavy duty zipped storage bag.
2. This is a very nifty freestanding garden parasol from John Lewis. The clever design means that you can easily position your chair or sun lounger underneath the parasol, rather than to the side of it, and you don’t have to have it positioned in the centre of a table either.
 Freestanding garden parasol
The only slight downside is that you do need to have four 45cm x 45cm paving slabs for the base. That aside, the John Lewis freestanding garden parasol in ecru is available for £119.20.
3. To add a bit of colour into your garden, how about this multi coloured stripe Zanzibar parasol?
 Stripe parasol
The base is made from eucalyptus wood, the shade has UV30 protection and is made from polyester.
The Zanzibar stripe parasol costs £99 from Marks and Spencer.
4. This large oriental tilting garden parasol, provides plenty of shade in a stylish way. Unlike some parasols, there’s as much of a design element in the underside of the parasol, which you get to see when sitting underneath it.
 Oriental garden parasol
The parasol frame is made from aluminium and the canopy from UV resistant polyester. The oriental tilting garden parasol costs £96.98 from Posh Garden Furniture on Bouf (plus, there’s free P&P to the UK!).
5. If you need more than just a parasol, then there are some well priced garden furniture sets available, which include a parasol. This Lattice six piece patio set from Asda is a good buy at £150.
 Red parasol and patio furniture
The cherry red garden parasol measures 200cm, plus you get four dining style chairs with red cushions and a table. The Lattice patio set is available to buy from Asda.
