If you’ve not yet seen it, it’s well worth taking a look at the House by John Lewis collection of furniture and home accessories.
Based on a contemporary style, all the pieces are well produced, stylish and uncluttered, making them perfect for a modern home.

In particular, we love the look of the Oxford range, which consists of many modular storage units which can be used individually or in conjunction with other pieces. They’d be great for use in a living room, bedroom or study.
The Oxford storage units are made from oak veneer with a natural lacquer and you can choose between lacquered or coloured doors and various shelves and drawers.
As far as modular furniture go, it’s a well designed concept and it’s perfect that you can buy the bits you want and select your own colour preferences for cupboard doors. Prices start from £29.

Carefully chosen cushions can help bring the interior design of a room to life.
John Lewis have put together some lovely cushion collections – here are three of our favourites.
 Playnation cushions
The Playnation cushion collection is ideal if you like contemporary designs and lively colours. Mix and match these plain and print cushions for a playful and fun look.
The cushions are priced from £15 to £35 each.
 Bright and beautiful cushions
The Bright and Beautiful cushion collection lives up to its name, as it’s full of bright colours and eye-catching designs. The 3D style cushions add texture and interest, whilst the bright floral and watercolour prints combine uplifting colours. Even the plain cushions add a bit of luxury, as they’re made of silk.
These cushions are priced between £20 and £45.
 Monochrome cushions
If natural colours, blacks and whites are more your style, the Monochrome Designs cushion collection is full of options. From the wonderful eye test and London typography cushions, to gorgeous textured cushions, this collection offers stylish possibilities for a modern and contemporary home.
Cushions in the monochrome collection are priced from £20 to £35.

A garden parasol is essential for ensuring you have much needed shade on hot days, and helps reduce the risk of getting sunburnt if you’re sitting outside. If you haven’t got a huge budget to spend on a garden parasol, then these two options are currently available for under £40.
The parasol poles are made from FSC eucalyptus wood, work with a pulley system and have added UV protection included in the canopy.
Available in lido blue or coral, the parasols currently cost £39.20 each from John Lewis.

We love a good day bed.
They’re comfortable, relaxing and a great alternative to a sun lounger for using outside. Here are three well designed and gorgeous looking dream day beds!
 Dune day bed
The Dune day bed, by Barlow Tyrie, is an elegant piece of furniture for a contemporary garden. It’s made from hand-woven resin fibre which is weatherproof and has plenty of space to curl up on. It’s available from John Lewis.
 Atlantic day bed
A lot of daybeds tend to have rounded cover shades, but we love the look of this Atlantic Daybed, that’s produced in a tipi tent style. It’s from House of Fraser.
 Padstow day bed
Compared to the two other options, the Padstow day bed is somewhat more affordable, but is still equally well styled. We particular the addition of some hidden storage, so you can stash away your suncream, shades, books or magazines. This one’s available from Tesco.

 Compact kettle barbecue
There are some swish and stylish barbecues on the market, but if you don’t have a massive budget to spend, there are plenty of more economically priced, and smaller sized, barbecues available.
This charcoal kettle barbecue is one good value, affordable option (and even more so at the moment, as there’s an additional 20% off!). It’s made from porcelain enamel with a chrome plated cooking grill, drip tray and lid.
You do need to do a bit of self-assembly, but it’s a nice compact size and is perfect for a budget barbecue.
The charcoal kettle barbecue is usually priced at £32 from John Lewis.

 Hexagonal tray
We’re loving hexagonal designs at the moment and they seem to be everywhere in interior design and homeware products – have you spotted the hexagonal honeycomb decals on the walls in this year’s Apprentice house?
So when we found this hexagonal beehive tray at John Lewis, we couldn’t resist it!
The serving dish style tray is made up of seven mini hexagonal compartments. They each lift out, so that you can arrange the segment colours as you wish or use them independently if you don’t need to use the whole tray. It’s perfect for serving dips and nibbles with and is an attractive and eye-catching design.
The hexagonal beehive tray is yours for £45.

If you’re after a contemporary styled sofa and chair for your home, then we’d recommend a look at the Sullivan snuggler and chair range from John Lewis.
We first came across the Sullivan snuggler sofa last year, when it was available in a rather funky stripe fabric. Now the furniture is back in stock, this time in a great range of plain coloured fabrics.
There’s nothing plain about the colours though – there’s a palette of 11 shades to choose from, including a bright pink, cheery yellow, teal blue and red.
Both the Sullivan sofa and chair are nicely designed and styled, with neat rounded arms and and dainty maple wood feet.
The Sullivan chair retails at £399 and the Sullivan Snuggler is £599.

 Farfalla butterfly wallpaper
If you thought butterfly wallpaper wasn’t for you, take a look at Osborne and Little’s Farfalla wallpaper.
Featuring brightly coloured and wonderfully detailed butterflies flitting across a black background with embellished fern leaves, the wallpaper looks stunning used to create a feature wall.
The dramatic black background works so well and helps the detail on the butterfly designs stand out even more.
The Farfalla wallpaper (‘farfalla’ being the Italian word for ‘butterfly’) is designed by Nina Campbell for Osborne and Little and is now available to purchase at John Lewis for £54 per roll.
If the black is too dark for you, then the same design is also available in a light champagne.
