Contemporary Noah chest
The Design Collective at John Lewis showcases furniture, homeware and soft furnishings from some of the best design talent in the UK and internationally. Amongst some of the excellent designers who have products featured is Bethan Gray.
Bethan is an award-winning furniture designer who spent 10 years designing for Habitat, before going solo and launching the Bethan Gray Studio.
Bethan has produced a range of contemporary furniture exclusively for John Lewis, including furniture for the bedroom, dining room and living room.
In particular, we love the design of the Noah range, which includes sideboards, desks, tables, cupboards and this lovely Noah chest of drawers.
The chest has five drawers and offers plenty of storage inside. It’s made from solid and oak veneers and we like the ‘no handle’ look – the soft-close drawers have integral handles, rather than bulky knobs.
As you’d expect from a high quality designer piece of furniture, it comes fully assembled, so there’s no diy needed to put this beauty together!

Ah, the anglepoise lamp – a lighting design classic that’s still as fresh and functional today as it ever was.
The Type 75 mini task lamp is designed by Kenneth Grange and is the perfect size to use as a desk or table lamp. The lamp has a solid base and can easily be angled and moved to the position you want.
We particularly love the lamp in these colours – deep purple, powder blue and forest green – and they’re all available on a special buy price at John Lewis, of £68.

Wooden bell tree
This cute wooden contemporary Christmas tree is simple yet sophisticated.
We love the pared back wooden tree, which has a slight Scandinavian feel to it, and it’s simply decorated with mini bells in green, white and red.
The wooden tree is designed as a tabletop decoration and it can be flat packed after use, so you can store it away for next year.
For the ultimate in contemporary minimal Christmas decorations, you could get away with just having this out on display, but it would also go well used alongside other Christmas decor.
The wooden bell tree is £18 from John Lewis.

The New Japan collection of home accessories at John Lewis features contemporary and elegant designs evoking an oriental, with modern takes on origami and some inspiring textural effects.
There are vases, bowls, candle holders, photo frames and decorative objects with smooth, ridged or textured surfaces, in a selection of dark and light colours. The materials used vary from smooth, sleek soapstone, to pale and dark stained woods and, although most of the colours are whites, creams and naturals, the addition of some black, pinks and lilacs adds a bit of colour to the mix.
We love the white hurricane candle holders, with their contemporary origami style design (you could also use these as vases), and the earthenware streamline swallows.
All the pieces are well priced, ranging from £5 to £40 each, and work well used on their own or as part of a wider contemporary oriental interior design room scheme.

Pom-pom xmas wreath
Fancy a wreath decoration for Christmas? How about one made of felt?
This funky red and white pom-pom wreath is a lovely alternative to a traditional Christmas wreath. It’s made by Felt So Good, an ethical interiors company, and all the materials used to make it are biodegradable.
The soft pom-pom wreath measures 30cm in diameter and can be hung on a door, or used to decorate your home. The Felt So Good wreath is available from John Lewis for £35.
Mini felt wreath decoration
There’s also a cute mini felt wreath decoration (10cm), perfect for hanging on a tree, for just £5.

Britain’s landscapes have been the inspiration behind many a wallpaper design. MissPrint’s latest wallpapers are inspired by the landscape of the snow capped mountains of Great Britain.
The mountains wallpaper collection offers a modern interpretation of mountainscapes and offers a bit of a change from MissPrint’s other designs, which often draw inspiration from flowers or trees (it’s by the same design company who created the lovely saplings wallpaper we featured previously).
There’s a lot of detail included in the line drawings of the mountains and the different colour patterns (mostly) reflect different times of day, with a few fanciful additions thrown in. There are five colourways – sunrise, red sun, blue moon, dusk and midnight. See below for more images of these colour options.
The MissPrint mountains wallpaper is available from retailers such as John Lewis, for £59.95 per roll.

Here’s a bean bag with style – not just in comfort and design, but in the fabric choice too.
This giant Fat Boy bean bag seat has been livened up by the addition of an iconic floral print from Scandinavian design icon, Marimekko.
The size of these bean bags means that you can sit on them like a chair, lounge on them, lie on them and curl up on them as you wish.
Available in a lively red or classic black and white colourway, the bean bag seats are available from John Lewis.

Roomy toothbrush holder
At last, a substantial and stylish toothbrush holder suitable for electric toothbrushes!
If you’re a household where several electric toothbrushes are in use, you’ll no doubt find that they don’t all fit into standard toothbrush holders and, if left out, tend to drip or leave small rings of residue toothpaste behind on the surface, resulting in a need for more cleaning!
This large high gloss ebony black holder, which is part of the Theatre Autumn/Winter 2012 trend from John Lewis, will keep all your toothbrushes safely housed in its roomy storage compartments.
It’s available for £15, with other matching bathroom accessories available too.
