Jigsaw rug and puzzle rug from Unique Boutique

Contemporary felt jigsaw rugModern and contemporary rug ideas

We’ve just discovered Unique Boutique and they certainly live up to their name, by selling some unique and quirky products!

The jigsaw rug and create your own puzzle rug caught our eye, as they’re both rather novel – they’re made from woollen felt and have an interactive element to them, as you can change the design and look to suit your mood.

With the jigsaw rug, you can design your perfect rug layout by putting the jigsaw pieces together in the design you want. The pieces come in stone and lime green colours for a modern look.

The puzzle rug is made of white woollen felt with an all over cut-out design. It comes with lots of tiny triangles in a rainbow of colours that can be placed in position on the rug as you see fit. Have them as an ordered pattern, or create random designs. It’s bit more fiddly than the jigsaw rug, but still looks like lots of fun.

There are some other similar rugs available too, so check them out if you’re after a rug with a difference.

Soft felt wall storage room divider

Wall divider with storage

Room dividers are a great way of making a large space more functional and dividing space up into different uses. Whilst many room dividers and screens do have a decorative element included in their design, this modern B&B Italia room divider adds another dimension – storage.

Designed by Carsten Gerhards and Andreas Glucker in 2002, for B&B Italia, the soft wall room divider is made from felt, with a metal frame on the base.

The room divider has a sculptural feel to it and there are various different sizes of slots all over the piece, where photographs, pictures, postcards, magazines or other bits and pieces can be slotted in.

The B&B Italia soft wall room divider would look as much at home in a bedroom as it would in an office. It’s available in two sizes and can be purchased from Mac & Mac Interiors.

Award-winning British textile designer, Selina Rose, has released a new 2010 collection of homeware items. All made from 100% wool felt, and featuring her trademark cutwork designs, two of the items that caught our eye are the unusual Scale Stool and the Flutterby butterfly cushions.

The Scale Stool is inspired by origami and is part of the range of ‘Cut and Fold’ homewares. The felt is partially cut to create folds in the felt, which look really effective. Shown here in a vivid pink, the stool is available in a choice of 17 colours and is made to order.

The distinctive Flutterby cushions have been popular for a while, but new for 2010 are three more colours – pink, lime and orange. The cut and fold effect of the butterfly wings lift up to reveal contrasting colours behind them. Measuring 45cm by 45cm the cushions are £89 each.

Attractive butterfly shade

Attractive butterfly shade

Hot on the heels of the 3D Provence floral table lamp comes this great lighting discovery.

Made by Mixko, a Japanese and British designer duo, this unusual buttefly light is made from thick white felt. The lamp shade is available in a choice of drum or drape styles and each has a series of butterflies cut out of the material and adorning the light in various places. The butterflies vary in shape and size and look like they’ve been attracted to the sight of the light and are perched on the shade to be near it.

This unusual piece is available to purchase from The French Bedroom Company.

Patriotic placemats

We’ve had the Waterloo armchair, the cool Britannia sofa,  the Jan Constantine Union Jack swirl cushion and the Emma Bridgewater tin. It was only really a matter of time before we’d feature placemats too.

These Union Jack placemats are made from lovely soft ethically sourced felt and they’re designed in England (where else?).

The round placemats come as a set of four, measuring 29cm in diameter, with a red, white and grey design. Don’t worry about them being made of felt, as they can easily be washed if they get dirty.

To add a patriotic touch to your dining table, head over to Funky Olive, where you can buy the placemat set for £19.99. Matching coasters are available too, for £8.50.
