Storage boxes

Storage boxes

I really like the idea of wallpapering the inner back of plain white shelving, so you can see colourful wallpaper showing through, but it can be a bit of a fiddle to do on existing shelves, especially if they’re packed with books.

These bookshelf boxes are great, as they come ready wallpapered, so there’s no hard work involved. You could use them for storing books in, or simply use the shelves for displaying other home accessories and ornaments. The less you put in them, the more the wallpaper will show through.

The bookshelf boxes come in sets of two, in a choice of green or purple, and are available from Camel and Yak.

Junior polar bear bookshelf

Stunning bookshelf

Stunning bookshelf

This clever animal bookshelf, called Junior, is in the shape of a polar bear and comes in brushed stainless steel, or shiny white.

It was designed by Benoit Convers and made by Ibride, and is available from Made in Design.

There are numerous shelves, so you can fill up the spaces with all your books. It would be great for a child’s room, but just as fun used by an adult too.

Junior the polar bear bookcase is available from Made In Design, where you can also find his big brother, Joe, too.

Holly Palmer’s Book Porcupine

Holly Palmer's Book Porcupine

The Book Porcupine by Holly Palmer

British designer, Holly Palmer, is renowned for coming up with ingenius ideas and her clever Book Porcupine is no exception.

The Book Porcupine offers a novel and rather different way of storing your books. The nifty little shelving unit has a range of 18 different compartments of varying sizes (to accommodate small, medium and large sized books) and the books slot into the spaces.

It’s called the Book Porcupine due to the way the book spines stick out of the shelving unit – like the needles on a porcupine. When books are removed, colours in the compartments are revealed.

The Book Porcupine isn’t cheap, but it is a designer piece. It starts at £950 and is available in white and up to four colours.
