Funky recycled table

Funky recycled table

If you’re a fan of truly unique furniture and also love recycled items, then this fab table from Jamie Ward Furniture may well appeal.

The unusual table is produced using various elements of old reclaimed wood, which effectively mixes different types of old furniture styles, to create a new design piece.

There is only one of the table pictured available – each one is different – but it’s ready to buy from Jamie Ward Furniture. Other table and chair designs are available too.

Champagne bottle vase

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

    champagne-bottle-vase1      champagne-bottle-vase

I’ve often kept empty champagne bottles from special occasions and sometimes use them to pop a flower in. However, you can only realistically get one flower stem in, due to the neck of the bottle, so they don’t serve a great purpose as a vase.

That’s where these champagne bottle vases really differ. They’ve been cleverly recycled and properly cut off, to form ample sized vases. The cut-off neck has been smoothed down, so there are no areas where you could cut yourself, and the champagne bottle labels are left on the bottles. All of this is down by hand, by Andy the glassmaker in London – and he personally collects the champagne bottles from bars and restaurants in the West End of London!

The bottle vases look great as a centrepiece on a dining table, or simply to have in any room of your home.

Available as a either a green glass vase or a clear glass vase, the champagne bottle vases are only £11 each from EcoOutlet.

Recycled coffee cup week planner board

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Once upon a time, this was a coffee cup.....

Once upon a time, this was a coffee cup.....

It’s amazing what new homeware products can be produced from recycled waste. The humble throwaway coffee cup is being used in many great ways – we’ve previously featured a recycled sundial, but now there’s this fanastic weekly wall planner which is also made out of old coffee cups.

From a distance, this wall planner gives the impression that it’s made from a slate-like material. Although not slate, the recycled material is tough, heavy and solid and looks good, as well as being durable.

The planner is produced to mimic a chalkboard, with plenty of space available for you to plan your weekly meals, household chores or make notes of social engagements for the week. There’s also a useful clock at the top of the board, which operates when one AA battery is inserted in the back.

It’s a functional and useful item for the home and even better that it’s also made out of recycled materials. You can buy the recycled coffee cup week planner from Love Eco.

Fold up low garden seat

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Fold-up garden seat

Fold-up garden seat

We love the idea of this low, fold-up seat. It would be perfect for using in the garden when you’re entertaining, if you want to pop out and sit in the sun for a few minutes or if you’re hosting a barbecue. It’s also useful to take with you to other outdoor events and is the perfect size for use on a picnic or at a festival.

The chair is small, lightweight and easy to carry and is made in England from recycled polypropelene.

The low fold-up seat is available from The Urban Garden, where it’s currently reduced in price.

ENO make-it-yourself magazine book stool

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Nifty magazine stool

Nifty magazine stool

This doesn’t look much, but it’s a really clever idea! If you’ve got loads of magazines hogging the magazine rack, rather than recycling them or giving them away (or, shock, horror, throwing them out), now you can make them into your own usable piece of furniture.

ENO have made a strong black nylon strap which you can wrap around a pile of magazines, tighten and make into a stool to sit on. If you were to simply pile up a stack of magazines, sitting on them would inevitably involve one or more sliding and coming adrift, so the nylon strap solves those issues.

The book stool strap is also available in red and you can buy them from Made in Design.

Reclaimed comic decoupage chairs

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

superman_chairreclaimed-bonanza-comic-chair

Bring your favourite comic heroes into your home, in the form of these unusual comic decoupage chairs.

Handmade from reclaimed vintage 1950s chairs, the chairs have been re-designed and given a completely new look, with the help of comic decoupage.

If you’ve got a favourite comic, then you can pick which one you’d like adorning the chair – the blue one above, for example, features Superman. You also get to choose the colour of the seat pad.

If comics aren’t your cup of tea, there’s also the option to have a chair covered in the pages of a favourite magazine, map or even a newspaper.

These unique chairs are created by Bombus and are available to order through Not On The High Street.

Recycled Scrabble felt cushions from Ecocentric

Recyled cushions

Share a message

These fun felt cushions will appeal to many a Scrabble fan.

They’re not only rather quirky, but they’re also made from 100% recycled plastic bottles that have been formed into a wonderfully soft felt. The inner cushion is also made out of a 100% recycled fibre filling (95% made from more of those plastic bottles) and an organic cotton outer.

The U & ME cushions would be very apt for Valentine’s Day, but if there are other letters that would have more meaning for you, then they can be ordered in your own choice of lettering or colour.

If you’re keen on the idea of saving plastic bottles from going to landfill, then buying just one of these cushions will save 10 bottles!

The cushions are available to purchase individually, or in sets, and you can find them for sale at EcoCentric.

Impressive recycled sundial from Cox and Cox

Keep an eye on the sun

Keep an eye on the sun

I love the idea of having a sundial in the garden (although perhaps not massively useful in the current weather) and this one looks like it’s been made from good quality slate.

But, looks can be deceiving…would you believe, it’s actually made from recycled vending machine coffee cups?

Yes, it’s true, this is what the end product of recycling vending machine cups can produce.

The impressive looking sundial can track the sun in your garden in a time honoured tradition and is frost-proof and durable.

The sundial is available from Cox and Cox, where’s it’s currently got £9 off in their sale.

Unique hanging decorations

Unique hanging decorations

For something different to hang on your Christmas tree this year, how about these vintage chocolate mould decorations?

You wouldn’t know it to first look at them, but they’ve been upcycled from redundant chocolate moulds and made into unusual hanging decorations. The decorative shapes of the moulds suit the purpose well and it’s a very clever idea.

A mixed bag of five of these unusual decorations is available from Patchwork Harmony for £6.95.
