Vintage style: 10 floral seating picks to make your home bloom

Wednesday, October 5th, 2016

Cited by Elle Decor as one of 2016′s most exciting new trends, floral furniture is big right now. Think huge, overblown flowers on vintage-style fabrics – the sort of thing your granny might have worn to a tea dance.

It might not be everyone’s cup of tea (see what we did there?!), but throwing a spot of vintage style into a contemporary home can give it an eclectic feel.

Try pairing floral furniture with plain, neutral decor to avoid full sensory overload! Alternatively, dip your toe into the floral trend on a budget by teaming a plain sofa or armchair with clashing floral cushions in bright colours.

Here are 10 floral seating ideas to get you started.

1. Floralism velvet pouffe, The French Bedroom Company

Sumptuous overblown peonies, flowing tulips and irises, interspersed with small flowers and grasses on this velvet pouffe pay homage to centuries of wonderful Dutch still-life paintings and are bang on trend. Turn your bedroom into a boudoir with this eye catching piece. £270 from The French Bedroom Company.

2. Magnum sofa, Delcor

The dramatic fabric on the Magnum sofa will certainly prove a talking point! The modern upholstery is in contrast to the traditional style of this sofa, which features traditional high arms to stop drafts and create a cosy, ‘cocooned’ feeling. £2,031, available from Delcor.

3. Tivoli armchair in Royal Daisy Pewter fabric, Swoon Editions

Add a little architecture to your living room with the neatly structured Tivoli armchair. A hand-made design, it’s inspired by clean lines and minimal styling. Mother's day gifts and charity card

Designs can inspire ideas and feelings that can’t always be expressed with words – at least, that’s the thought behind the work of London-based designer, Andy Hau, who runs A.H.A Design.

Andy is inspired by storytelling, memories and childhood experiences and it’s fully recognisable in his work. His products include cushions and cards featuring some endearing and wistful designs.

Two of the cushion designs we like are 100 starlings rising, with its mass of swirling birds, and the persistence of volition which features a sofa floating from a patchwork hot air balloon. Both of the cushions are reversible, with a signature fox print featured on the back.

Andy Hau currently has a special greeting card available, which could be perfect for Mother’s Day. The fox and the hummingbird card is dedicated to the memory of Andy’s mum, and the proceeds of sales are going to Bowel Cancer UK.

Inspirational ‘believe in yourself’ cushions by Nicola Rowlands

Believe in yourself message for your home

We’ve recently been focusing on products for the home with words and phrases, be it inspirational, motivational or entertaining, for our Signs of Life collection on eBay. So it seems appropriate to have chanced upon these cushions, which fit in with our theme.

The cushions are produced by Manchester-based designer Nicola Rowlands and bear the message, “She believed she could, so she did.”

The small oblong pillow cushions are printed with fresh colours on heavyweight cotton on the front, and backed with beige on the back. They’re available to buy for £15 each. If you know someone who could do with an extra boost of encouragement to believe in themselves and plans they’re making, then this is a great gift idea.
