Patriotic placemats

Patriotic placemats

We’ve had the Waterloo armchair, the cool Britannia sofa,  the Jan Constantine Union Jack swirl cushion and the Emma Bridgewater tin. It was only really a matter of time before we’d feature placemats too.

These Union Jack placemats are made from lovely soft ethically sourced felt and they’re designed in England (where else?).

The round placemats come as a set of four, measuring 29cm in diameter, with a red, white and grey design. Don’t worry about them being made of felt, as they can easily be washed if they get dirty.

To add a patriotic touch to your dining table, head over to Funky Olive, where you can buy the placemat set for £19.99. Matching coasters are available too, for £8.50.

If you’re on the hunt for a glass coffee table, then it’s worth checking out the tables on offer at M&S, especially as they’ve got a special 50% off furniture deal starting today (and running until 26th January 2010).

The contemporary glass coffee table, with its Italian design, is perfect for any discerning modern home. Its rounded ends and smooth, flowing lines help it fit effortlessly into a room and it measures 38cm by 120cm by 60cm.

If you prefer a table that’s slightly less cutting edge, then the Viva coffee table, with its brushed metal finish, is a good classic option.

It has a shelf underneath, which would be handy for storing magazines or children’s toys, although with the glass top you can’t get away with hiding too much clutter underneath! This table measures 40cm by 85cm by 50cm.

For more home furniture bargains, including reduced sofas, cabinets, armchairs and beds, have a look at the M&S furniture sale.

Can we? Shall we? Limited edition laser cut

Intricate laser cut

If you want to invest in some modern new artwork, then how about this laser cut by designer Rob Ryan?

Entitled, ‘Can We? Shall We?’ the limited edition red lasercut is one of only 250. It measures 27cm by 37.5cm and comes mounted on white card, ready for framing.

Although you might not be able to see it that clearly on the picture, there’s some delicately cut-out wording running down the middle of the piece. This text reads:

”Can We? Shall We? One day very soon, let us go away together just you and me. Can We? Shall We? Call in sick one day and travel to the sea and hold hands all day.

Can We? Shall We? Eat our sandwiches on the train, get drunk on fresh air and come home tired and never tell anyone….Ever.”

The unusual laser cut can be purchased from Rob Ryan’s store on Etsy (although it is priced in US dollars, it’s shipped from the UK).

We love these fresh and bright Potter’s Choice coasters and matching trivet from Anthropologie.

The floral motif on the earthenware coasters and trivet has been handcarved. The pieces are then finished off with glossy coats of vivid green and blue shades to produce a stunning end result.

The coasters are 4″ square, each featuring a sightly different design, and cost £10.18 per set online. The trivet measures 8″ square and is priced at £8.90 online (prices in store may vary).

Handy storage pots

These two colourful storage pots are Fair Trade products and would be handy for storage purposes in the kitchen, or other parts of your home (I rather fancy storing sweets or nibbles in one on my desk).

They come sold as a set of two and are available at the reduced price of £15 from Plumo.

Nina Campbell napkins

We spotted these Nina Campbell napkins featured in the January 2010 issue of Easy Living magazine.

The pictures don’t really do them justice, but the crisp white napkins are subtlely decorated with either a butterfly or dragonfly design. They’re available embroidered in either silver or gold and measure 54cm by 54cm.

Although very simple, it’s an effective way of freshening up white napkins and adding an element of interest. They’d look lovely on any discerning dining table.

The napkins are £6.99 each from Nina Campbell.

Trendy light shade

Trendy light shade

We’re rather impressed by this hanging flower light shade.

Not just because it’s stylish and on trend, but also because of its price.

Designed by Richard Yorke, and available from Bouf, this pretty lampshade is exceedingly affordable at only £15. We can’t quite believe it.

Colourful thermos flasks

Carry a hot drink in style

Hot drinks have been firmly on the agenda in recent weeks and if you’re out and about, then carrying a hot flask of coffee or tea is the perfect way of ensuring you’ve always got a hot refreshment to hand, even if you’re out in the cold weather.

We love all three of these quirky and colourful thermos flask designs. There’s a trendy owl design, a wordy ‘baby it’s cold outside’ flask or a totally dotty spotty flask. It’s a tough choice, but we’re opting for the cute owl.

The flasks are £15 each at Berry Red.
